School of Art Galleries Proposals 2009

STEP 1: EXHIBITION AND PROPOSAL CRITERIA

The School of Art Gallery are managed by the School of Art of RMIT University. Project Space is managed by both the School of Art and the School of Creative Media at RMIT. The galleries' mission is to -

Proposals for exhibitions at the School of Art Galleries may include those -

STEP 2: COMPLETE PROPOSAL PROFORMA

Proposals are to be presented on a CD or DVD and must include a completed proposal proforma alongside the additional material requested in the proforma.

Please note that Masters and Ph.D. students at the School of Art need not apply for an examination exhibition. Supervisors will contact the Coordinator/Curator directly and inform students of the dates of their examination exhibition.

STEP 3: PRESENT PROPOSAL TO A RELEVANT SCHOOL OF ART RESEARCH CLUSTER

The School of Art Galleries has a pivotal role in supporting research in the School of Art and, as such, proposals for exhibitions at the School of Art Galleries (Project Space/Spare Room and the School of Art Gallery) are sought directly through the School of Art Research Clusters.

Proposals are firstly to be presented to a School of Art Research Cluster for endorsement and then, through the Research Cluster Leader or his/her representative, to the School of Art Galleries Advisory Committee for consideration for the 2009 program. Cluster Research Leaders may propose a maximum of 4 exhibitions for consideration by the School of Art Gallery Advisory Commitee at each call. Research Clusters may present individual exhibition projects or a suite of exhibitions that explores a particular idea or ideas.

Please note that external exhibition proposals sent directly to the Acting Curator/Coordinator School of Art Galleries from the non-RMIT art community will be forwarded to the most relevant School of Art Research Cluster Leader for consideration by their Research Cluster.

Please consult the Research Cluster Leader's schedule so as to allow enough time between the proposal deadline (listed below) and its planning and consideration.

(STEP 4: PRESENTATION OF PROPOSALS TO THE SCHOOL OF ART GALLERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE)

Proposals will be sent on your behalf (by the Research Cluster Leaders) to the School of Art Galleries Coordinator for compilation and distribution to the School of Art Gallery Advisory Commitee. Deadlines for endorsed proposals are listed below -

The School of Art Galleries Curator/Coordinator will present the proposal to the School of Art Galleries Advisory Committee for discussion, evaluation and selection. All decisions made by the School of Art Galleries Advisory Committee are final. Once a decision has been reached, applicants will receive a written response to their application. Approved proposals will be supplied with a copy of the policy and guidelines for exhibiting. The policy and guidelines must be adhered to; any changes to proposals must be discussed and approved by the School of Art Galleries Curator/Coordinator. School of Art Galleries reserves the right to cancel any exhibition that does not adhere to the policy and guidelines

Floorplans

Project Space Gallery is a rectangular space measuring 708 wide and 1231 cm long. In the front of the space is a 400 x 720 cm east-facing window that overlooks Cardigan Street and in the back is an entrance to Spare Room. The ceiling is 360 cm tall and has both flourescent lighting and 3 tracks (left, right and front) of track lighting (100W tungsten bulbs).

Spare Room Gallery is a small 218 x 371 cm space located in the back of Project Space. It has 6 small fixed halogen lights and a data projector installed in the ceiling.

School of Art Gallery is roughly a square with the walls measuring 774 cm, 1010 cm, 1096 cm and 1028 cm (clockwise around the room from door). The ceiling is 360 cm tall and has both flourescent lighting and 3 tracks (an inside, middle and outside) of track lighting (100W tungsten bulbs). There is a square center pole in the gallery, which measures about 50 cm square and goes to the ceiling. There are power points at the base of the walls.
