The Printmaking Summer REsidency Program
During the summer months of December, January and February the RMIT School of Art Galleries and the RMIT School of Art Printmaking Studio invites seven artists to take part in an annual artist residency program. The artists are provided with 24 hour access to studios, extended access to the printmaking facilities and an exhibition in Project Space/Spare Room. Artists were also provided with paper and ink and asked to create an original edition of 25 prints.
1 print will be retained for the RMIT Collection, 7 will be collated into portfolios and presented to each of the participating artists while the remaining 17 prints from each edition will be sold as fundraisers for the residency programme. The fundraising prints will be displayed in Spare Room. Funds raised from the sale of the prints will be used for upgrading facilities in Project Space / Spare Room, the printmaking studio and the artists' studios, and to cover residency and exhibition costs such as paper, inks, invitation and catalogue.
The residency, exhibition and fundraiser has since become a much anticipated annual event, serving to support not only RMIT Project Space / Spare Room and the School of Art, but also the local community of emerging and established printmakers. At least one place each year will be reserved for a former RMIT University graduate.
The School of Art Galleries Printmaking Summer Residency program is non-profit and fully self funded through sale of the fundraising prints. There is no entry fee, and no exhibition/participation cost to the artist.
